MAROON BELLS:

Aspens in Fall in the high country of Colorado
Aspens in Fall

I took my trip to "The Bells" during the peak leaf peeping period of late September. The roads were packed with people out for a weekend drive armed with their cameras. The Aspens never seem to disappoint in the high country during this time of year.

The Evening Prior was quite cloudy and a bit windy. With the moon out, I turned the camera, putting the moon at my back and snapped a few long exposures; all of which look similar to the image above.

The morning's sunrise surely didn't disappoint. If you go, especially if you go during peak leaf season, be prepared for company. I'd guess that there were over 200 people on the edge of the lake during the sunrise. Many leave directly after. I'd recommend not leaving. Stick around for the late morning sun as seen below. Note: The buses will begin about the time many of the early birds leave, so expect a few new faces.

Once the sun was up, the mountains get a bit bright; check your clipping on your camera. In this image, I wished the clouds would just go away. In the next image, the clouds were about as important as the mountains.

The weather changes quite fast in and around the mountains. Personally, I love the extra but of contrast the clouds add.
